In 2015, 18-year-old Wang Jiale made the long journey of nearly 4,000 km from his home in northern China to Kashgar in Xinjiang. Inspired by a veteran neighbor and supported by his family, he chose to become a police officer in a remote border village atop the Pamir Plateau. Now, as the police chief, he serves over 300 families in the villages of Xarnif and Kokyar.
